K2 to Content Migration

K2 is a popular extension of Joomla. It always tops the list of most loved apps on versions J1.5, 2.5 and 3.

However, they still don't have a roadmap for Joomla 4 which is why you have to go back to Joomla Content, the default built-in extension on Joomla.

This tool makes it possible for you to migrate K2 articles to Joomla Content. Thereby, you can upgrade your website to Joomla 4.

It is designed for ease of use. Note because K2 is not available on Joomla 4, so you only use this tool for Joomla 3.

Imported data includes:

  • All K2 Articles + Intro Image
  • All K2 Categories
  • All K2 tags
  • All K2 Extra Fields
  • Attachments (Required plugin installation: File Attachments)

After installing this tool, go to Components > K2 to Content to get started.

    The component managed to convert the K2 items to articles, but when clicking on an article in the backend this error pops up:

    An error has occurred. 0 implode(): Argument #2 ($array) must be of type ?array, string given

    Return to Control Panel

    Any idea what's causing this?

    the articles content and the intro was mograted fine!
    aslo recreate the custom fileds passed correcty .
    however the content of thecustom fileds, did not migrated , instead the were filled with the fields default values.
    how can we solve it?

    Hello there,

    I need some help with the tool.I have bought the pro version and installed it on my joomla website (a local copy of joomla on my machine first for countless reasons).
    Unfortunately no mater what I do with the settings. I'm stuck at:

    Success: 0
    Failure: 0

    Please help me to resolve the issue. Also I'd prefer to talk it trough in private.

      @David My client bought it from you. I just test it and made a mess.
      i have:

      Field group 1: (related to category 1).
      field 1 (select single)
      field 2 (select multiple)

      Field group 2: (related to category 2).
      field 1 (select multiple)

      You extension moved:

      Field group 1: (related to category 1).
      field 1 (select single) Moved the field but with no values as it isnt showing on the articles. (Not Ok)
      field 2 (select multiple) moved as checkbox (Ok)

      Field group 2: (related to category 2).
      field 1 (select multiple) moved as checkbox (Ok)

      Another issue is that both fields show with values in both category articles which should not and dont know where it got the values...

      This extension will convert to "checkbox" type with the select multiple field. Because each site may have different configurations, I will refund you if my support doesn't get it working.

    I am trying to migrate my K2 items (numbering 3074) and categories (numbering 77). This component tells me that 2753 items and 58 categories will be migrated (and this is indeed what happens). I do need them all migrated... do you know what the issue could be please?

      @Vasyl Pavlus Yes, the fields and their values ​​will be migrated. However, if the field is not supported in com_content, it will default to "text" as the field type.

    Hello, I migrated k2 content to joomla articles and upgraded to joomla 4 and everything was fine on my test site, but the migrated articles are giving a 404 error once I published the website. Any hint?

      @David Hello, it seems the migration created some kind of association between the articles and the old template but I can't find any way to remove it, no layouts or anything from the old template seem to be referred either in the menu item or article settings.
      How can I fix it?

    I currently have 40,000 items on Joomla 3 .

    Can this tool help me smoothly transfer them to Joomla 4?

    And can the article URLs be transferred as well? (sef)

      @Angus Chen Please use Pro version to migrate large number of articles. If you have any problem during the migration, please contact me. I will help you as soon as possible.
      This extension only migrates articles from K2 to Joomla Content, the URL may not be the same, it depends on your site configuration.

    Hi. Great job. It works for me in seconds, but it doesn't move the images out of K2. Do images need to be moved to another folder? Need help with this. Thank you.

      Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean. Do you mean that the intro images of the featured items are not moved to the new folder? By default, all intro images will be imported to folder images/k2.

      The images in the article will still be stored in the k2 media folder. I recommend you keep this folder.

    I have migrated the K2 content over to Joomla content with no problems, but the K2 Extra Fields aren't being migrated over and any K2 Items which had extra field values set aren't being migrated as Joomla Custom fields. Have I done something wrong please?

    Hi,
    I've just installed the component to migrate K2 to articles on a very large site, and I have some problems:

    I have 5000+ tags, and only 1400 were moved to Joomla tags.
    What is the best practice for migrating the K2 items and saving the same IDs that I was using in the K2 items and categories if I already have articles and categories with the same IDs? Do I need to delete them before and check the box to "use the same K2 ID"?
    The custom field type "select" doesn't seem to migrate correctly to Joomla fields. It adds the field but not with the correct type, and it fails to move the corresponding data to it.

    Please let me know if you have any suggestions or solutions to these issues.

    Thank you for the extension. I'm able to convert a portion of my k2 items and categories.

    The log file shows a few messages like this:
    - Item: 台北凱撒大飯店 Caesar Park Hotel Taipei:Duplicate entry '1-1163-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: Mega 50餐飲及宴會．望月樓:Duplicate entry '1-1164-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: 湄公河南洋美食:Duplicate entry '1-1168-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: 鄉園本港海鮮餐廳:Duplicate entry '1-1169-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: Mega 50餐飲及宴會．望月樓:Duplicate entry '1-1172-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: 台北凱達大飯店 Caesar Metro Taipei:Duplicate entry '1-1173-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    - Item: Mega 50餐飲及宴會．望月樓:Duplicate entry '1-1176-53' for key 'uc_ItemnameTagid'

    What would you suggest me to do to get this duplicate entry issue fixed?

    This is not importing all identified articles. It says 4175 identified, but only imports about 1290, then just gets stuck.

      @Sean Kalinich In some cases, the process is stopped due to the Timeout parameter set on the server.

I migrated about a thousand items with attachments from K2 using your tool and attachments plugin. I initially did this on a test account. Everything worked fine over there. The migrated article attachments worked fine. Then I backed it all up and moved it to my live domain. Now none of the attachments load. All I get is Exception File Not Found and I can't figure out where to look. Turning on error reporting and debug don't tell me anything. I am guessing the old files were not moved during the migration correct? Or how does that all work? I still have all the original folders in the original places as far as I can tell.
