File Manager Extension for Joomla

JMP File Manager is the ultimate file manager for Joomla 3, 4, 5 and 6. This extension is inspired by the Finder program used on the Mac, which helps you manage files from the web with ease.

It works on modern browsers for both desktop and mobile. It has been tested in the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE and Opera.

Download the extension here:

Key Features:

  • Easy drop and drop uploads for modern browsers.
  • Select/deselect files/folders using operating system shortcuts.
  • Edit/read text-based files directly
  • View images in preview or open them.
  • ZIP/UNZIP files and folders.
  • Upload ZIP files and extract the contents directly to the folder.
  • Search and sort folder or file list.
  • Unique user experience by a great user interface.
  • Manage extension files via FTP.

User manual:

After installing this extension, go to Components > JMP File Manager to get started.

By default, the selected folder is "images" and the allowed files include:

  • Photos (GIF, PNG, JPG, JPEG)
  • Text
  • Office (Excel, doc, powerpoint)
  • Compressed file

To change path or other settings, click the "Options" button.

Turning off "Restrict Uploads" means you can upload any file type and we don't recommend it.

In order to use this extension for the root directory (where the website is located), enter "." (dot) to the Path parameter.

List of Legal MIME Types - file types that are allowed to be uploaded can be found here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Basics_of_HTTP/MIME_types/Common_types.

If you are satisfied with this extension, please give us a good review on JED. Thank you!

    Dear Support Team,

    We are using JMP File Manager version 1.3.3 on our Joomla 6.1.1 website and need your assistance with configuring folder-level access restrictions.

    Requirement:

    We want users assigned to the TeamMarketing user group to access only the docs folder. They should not be able to view or access other directories, such as administrator, components, images, modules, and other folders in the Joomla root directory.

    Current Configuration:

    Joomla Version: 6.1.1

    JMP File Manager Version: 1.3.3

    Configured Path: .

    Advanced Permissions:

    [TeamMarketing]docs
    [Editor]docs

    The TeamMarketing user is assigned to the TeamMarketing group, and the TeamMarketing group is nested under the Publisher group in our Joomla user-group hierarchy.

    However, after saving the configuration and logging in as the TeamMarketing user, the file manager still displays the entire Joomla root directory and its folders instead of restricting access to the docs folder.

    We have also reviewed the component permissions in Joomla Global Configuration, but the folder-level restriction is still not working as expected.

    Could you please clarify the following?

    Is our current Advanced Permissions syntax correct for JMP File Manager version 1.3.3?

    How should we configure the component to allow the TeamMarketing group to access only the docs folder?

    Does the component support restricting the root directory and hiding all other folders based on Joomla user groups?

    Are there any additional settings, permission rules, or code changes required to achieve this functionality?

    We can provide screenshots of our current configuration and the issue for further investigation.

    We would appreciate your guidance on the correct configuration or a recommended fix.

    Thank you for your support.

    Best regards,

    Is it possible to make this component available in the frontend so that authorized users can upload/delete data in specific folders?

    My association makes sheet music available to members of the orchestra. Currently, I have to upload files via a separate application; however, I would actually like to be able to do this within my Joomla site.

      @Marco Hi! The restriction of this feature lies in the website's security. That's why we only developed it for the admin page. Bringing it to the user page is possible, but the need is minimal. If you're interested, I can customize it for you; please contact me via email: contact[@]joomhelper.com . Thanks!

    On JED it says that this extension got updatedSep 24 2025, but on this site and the JED it's still on version 1.2.7 that is listed as last updated2023-05-13. When will it be updated for download as a new version?

    I keep seeing this message in the Joomla update area:

    Update: Could not open update site #649 "JMP File Manager", URL: https://joomhelper.com/update/jmpfilemanager.xml

    Is it possible to fix this so it doesn't show? It is confusing to my clients who have this extremely handy tool on their site. - Thanks!

    Excellent work in this extension 😎😎. However, I found some issues when editing an image using PhotoPea.

    But I used this CSS to override it:

    /* JMP File Manager */

    .com_jmpfilemanager .elfinder-dialog-edit {

    top: 40px !important;

    left: 215px !important;

    max-width: calc(100% - 218px);

    }

    You may need to hide the iframe that shows on the right side.
